SAR TECH I Requirements (Adult Members)
Written Test - 120 questions (must pass with 70%)
Written exam includes questions from the following: NIMS, Small Unit Leadership, Fitness, Crew Safety, Crewleader SAR Ready Pack, Maps, Symbology, Land Navigation, Search Techniques, Tactics, Briefing, Debriefing, Hazardous Terrain Skills, and Stress Management
Practicals consist of the following stations:
Crewleader SAR Ready Pack (22KB pdf) – contents of this will be used in the following stations
Hazardous Terrain Skills – establish a belay system between two points
Patient Transport – construct an improvised stretcher
Land Navigation – using topographic maps and compass complete a course over terrain commonly encountered in the operations area in a specified time frame, not to exceed 2000 meters during night time
Must be SAR TECH II certified and have Wilderness Intermediate Medical Class
All of the above stations are graded individually

DTSAR Commitment: Tuitions for medical class, purchase of book for member to keep and $50 test fee
SAR TECH II Requirements (Adult Members)
Written Test - under 145 questions (must pass with 70%)
Practicals consist of the following stations:
24 Hour Pack ( 24 KB pdf)
Land Navigation – using topographic maps and compass complete a course over terrain commonly encountered in the operations area in a specified time frame, not to exceed 600 meters
Tracking – identify and mark a footprint track left by the evaluator and follow the track to its end
Rope Skills – demonstrate the ability to tie four basic knots and a harness with supplied rope and webbing
Route Search – locate and label clues in a given area demonstrating the ability to detect 50% of the clues using a route search tactic
Area Search – locate and label clues in a given area demonstrating the ability to detect 50% of the clues using an area search tactic
All of the above station tests are graded as a team and individually
